What are the benefits of a veneer or veneers?
There are two typical types, porcelain dental veneers and composite Veneers can be used for cosmetic purposes such as covering up minor tooth damage or imperfections. The colour of the veneers can be selected by your dentist to match your existing teeth or to make them appear whiter. It usually takes at least two visits for a veneer depending on your oral health. During the first appointment we will be assessing your overall oral health, getting prepared for the treatment, examining fitment, taking measurements and scans and matching the tooth shade. The second appointment will be to fit it.
Dental veneers mimic the look and feel of real teeth so they help give you a bright, natural looking smile. Veneers are also stain-resistant and if cared for properly, they can last for many years before needing replacement. They can cover up stained, chipped, cracked or misaligned teeth or even replace damaged enamel.
In comparison to dental crowns, which require removing most of an individual’s natural tooth structure, dental veneers remove just enough enamel so they blend seamlessly into the surrounding teeth. Dental Veneers also offer similar strength and very natural looking results.

Porcelain Dental Veneers vs Composite Veneers?
Porcelain dental veneers are typically thin shells of porcelain surface which is adhered to the dental outer-surface of the tooth itself and thus improve your smile. Whereas dental ‘Composite Veneers’ are typically a resin-based composite material alternative which are applied to the outer service of your tooth. Both treatment options will be made to match your teeth colour (or whiter if you prefer) and improve your smile. Your dentist will advise on the best treatment route to take and suggest other dental services to compliment such as tooth whitening.

What are the downsides of having veneers?
Dental Veneers are a form of cosmetic dentistry that provide a long-term solution to improve the cosmetic look of imperfect teeth. Once you've had veneers fitted to your teeth, it's an irreversible procedure due to the fact that your dentist will need to remove the outer layer of enamel of your teeth as well as shape your teeth in order to apply the veneer. You will always need to have veneers on those teeth, so after a long period of time, they may need replacing & your teeth may need reshaping.
Your new dental veneers may take some time getting used too & your mouth may feel a little different. In some cases patients can also experience some sensitivity after the procedure.
The cost of Veneers also needs to be taken into consideration. Dental Veneers come at different prices and offer varying degrees of longevity. Veneers made from porcelain tend to be stronger than their acrylic counterparts, but they cost significantly more. Veneer composites made from resin are less expensive than porcelain veneers, but they don't last quite as long and tend to be more fragile.
Dental Veneers are a permanent way to fix minor cosmetic issues like discoloration, chips, cracks, etc. If someone wants to consider having cosmetic dental work done, they should talk to a dentist first.
