Dentures

Regularly cleaning your dentures helps prevent them from becoming stained and discolored and will ensure you have a healthy mouth.

Unclean dentures can cause problems, including bad breath, gingivitis, tooth decay, oral thrush, clean them at least two times per day — once in the morning and again before bedtime.

We recommend you do the below denture cleaning method and maintain your dentures every day:

  • Brush your dentures with toothpaste or warm soapy water before soaking them to clean out any food debris from eating.

  • Soak them in a fizzing mixture of denture cleaning tablets to get rid of stains and germs. Follow the directions provided by the manufacturer.

  • Brush them again just as you'd normally brush your teeth. Don't scrub them too hard though!

  • Handle your Dentures with care as they may break if dropped, so it is best to clean them over a folded towl, bowl of water or a filled sink. However your dentisit can help with any Denture repairs.

How to eat with your dentures

Eating with new Dentaures may take some practice and may be a little uncomfortable but this is normal. As soon as you begin wearing your dentures, you must eat soft food cut up into smaller pieces and chew them carefully, using both sides of the mouth.

Chewing gum and foods that are sticky and hard or have sharp edges may damage your teeth so try and avoid these.

You can gradually start to introduce other foods until you are back to your normal diet. Don't ever use toothpicks.
