Orthodontics (braces)

Want straighter teeth? Orthodontist treatment can be used to improve the appearance, position and function of crowded and crooked teeth. Our dentists can straighten and align teeth to boost your smile.

In order to straighten the teeth, a brace (metal wire) or aligner (clear and looks like a very thin mouth guard) is used to correct the position. Your exact treatment can depend on the issues you have with your teeth as well as the position. Your treatment will be tailored to your needs, therefore the duration of Orthodontic treatment can take from 3 months to 2 years to obtain the aesthetics and alignment you desire.

With different options for braces available, you can be rest assured that we have a style of brace to suit you.

Severe cases of alignment will be referred to the orthodontist however more straight forward cases can be easily and quickly rectified by treatments such as Invisalign, which is available at St Mary’s Place Dental Practice.

Fixed Orthodontics

As there are many types of braces out there, for example invisible, removable and fixed braces, we would advise to book a consultation with your dentist as they are able to recommend the best and most affordable braces.

At St Mary’s Place Dental Practice, we are able to offer the following Orthodontic treatments:

Fixed Braces

Fixed braces, or commonly known as ‘train-track’ braces, usually take between 12-24 months. However this depends on the extent of crowding.  Once the treatment is completed, you will be left with wonderful straight teeth for life! It may seem like a long process but it’s well worth it when you see your brand new smile.

Childrens Braces

Children’s Orthodontics is very common from the age of 12 years old. Usually by this time, they would have lost all of their Baby Teeth and their Adult Teeth will be in their final position.

Treatment is likely to last between 1-2 years depending on the extent of crowding. Tooth extractions may be required in order to make space if there is overcrowding present, the gaps will close up and will result in a nice set of straight teeth.

By having Braces, this can correct the position of the teeth which will enable your child to bite correctly, eat comfortably and more importantly it will improve their confidence.

Once the brace is fitted, we will inform you how to maintain good oral hygiene as this is an important aspect to this treatment.

In order to have a consultation for orthodontic treatment, your child will need to be referred by your General Dentist

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic appliance that works for you. Invisalign is almost invisible and often no one can tell you are wearing them. It is easily removed so you can eat and drink whenever and whatever you like. Studies have shown that Invisalign is better for your oral hygiene during the course of treatment, as they are easier to keep clean than conventional braces.
